Reading funding

A perpetual future has no expiry, so the exchange keeps its price near spot with a payment between the two sides every eight hours. A positive rate means longs pay shorts: the crowd is leaning long and paying for it. A negative rate means shorts pay longs.

The rate alone says little; where it sits against the coin's own history says more. A rate in the top tenth of its 90 days is crowded positioning, and crowded positioning is what liquidation cascades are made of.

Not financial advice. Trading carries a real risk of loss. See also liquidations and the desk's record.
